About
Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Barrow-in-Furness, Underwater Diving Services Ltd (UDS) is one of the UK’s most trusted names in marine civil engineering and commercial diving. With 14 full-time staff and specialist teams working both on site and remotely, communication is critical to keeping projects running smoothly and customers supported.
The Challenge
The existing telecoms setup wasn’t aligned with how UDS worked:
- Remote workers lacked effective support.
- The site, spread across multiple cabins, made transferring calls difficult.
- Customer service risked being affected by inefficiencies.
The business needed a solution that was reliable, user-friendly, and capable of supporting both remote and on-site teams.
The Solution
Bluebox was already known to the business, having previously installed an ethernet leased line before the new business owner took over. This internet solution allowed them to use their accounting system efficiently, as their existing broadband wasn’t reliable enough.
So, when the time came to install a new phone system, Bluebox was the obvious first point of contact. Following a site visit, Bluebox designed and delivered a cloud-based phone system to meet these challenges. Key features included:
- Secure remote desktop access, giving remote staff full connectivity
- Seamless call transfer between cabins, removing communication bottlenecks
- A flexible, cost-effective setup that was simple to use and maintain
The Outcome
Since implementation, the new system has transformed communication within UDS. Remote workers can now operate efficiently, calls flow smoothly between site cabins, and customers benefit from faster, more reliable service.
